My earliest food memory is eggs. Scrambled eggs. Runny ones, my memory reminds me. Here, on the beach in Spain with my mother, sister and family friends: a summer in the sun, with eggs. That’s me on the left.
What’s your earliest food memory?

Since I can remember we’ve had a little garden plot in our back yard. We grew such nice carrots and have always been one of my favorite. My first memory ever pertains to food, its me with a fresh pulled (still dirty) carrot, barely washed, I swear I remember the taste. Nommy
Hi Jeff, Thanks for stopping by! That’s amazing that your first memory is of food (mine is of falling out of bed because I was dreaming that I’d gone to the Grand Canyon with the Brady Bunch, and Peter had pushed me into the Canyon; food is a better first memory).
It’s absolutely not my first memory of food, but it’s another egg memory. When we went to Holland in 1987, we stayed at this lovely B&B in Amsterdam that held a fantastic breakfast every morning. Slices of ham, edam cheddar, bread, hot chocolate…and the most perfect soft-boiled eggs EVER. My mom and I ended up eating two every morning…the ones at our place settings, and I would eat one of my sisters’ eggs while my mom would eat my fathers’. The owners figured out by the third morning that my mom & I were the only ones eating them, so we’d sit down to 2 at each of our place settings. I’ve never been able to replicate the perfection of those soft-boiled eggs!
I also have (bad) memories of runny eggs…all of my high school youth group retreats were held at summer campgrounds, and their kitchens would put out horribly runny scrambled eggs. Even ketchup wouldn’t rescue them. Ugh.
Debi that’s a fantastic memory – love that it’s connected to travel! Have you tried one of those egg poaching pans from Williams-Sonoma? Not soft boiled but perfectly runny once you get the hang of it.
Baking chocolate chip cookies or cinnamon buns with my mom – I can still smell them
Hi Jolene – what a lovely memory, baking with your mom! I remember making butter with my mom, this was for a school project, mind you, not an every day event.
My food memory of this trip is the dinner of salt encrusted fish which we ate on the beach. Delicious.
Hi Mom – thanks for stopping by! I’m guessing you took this picture since you’re not in it?! Love, Lis
